6 Tips for the Perfect Pair of Womens Leggings

Leggings are no longer just for working, we do everything in our leggings!  So, with that in mind, we’ve compiled this list of what to look for, when it comes to getting the perfect pair of leggings for you –

1.  Don’t be like me - Buy leggings that fit

A few years ago, you may have caught me with my leggings bunched at the bottom of my leg, looking like a pant/leg warmer.  Yep, that was me guilty as charged. I was so determined to get into a certain brand’s leggings that I was willing to basically trip over their bootcut leggings just so I could wear them.  They were more like a shoe cover…lol.

Don't have your leggings fit like this

Now there are so many different flavors of leggings, even for us petite girls.  You don’t have to commit this fashion crime!  Most leggings will come with a size guide to assist you and it’s easy to find them in varying lengths and sizes to give you a perfect fit.  Here’s a guide to measure and see if your body size aligns with the leggings that you’re eyeing:

  • Waist: Measure around the waist, just above the hip bone about 2cm above the navel.
  • Low Waist: Measure the hip bone area, 2 cm below the navel.
  • Hips: Measure 20 cm below the natural waist, the most prominent area of the hip
  • Length: Measure your inseam from the uppermost part of your thigh to your ankle

If the leggings don’t have a size chart, just reach out to someone at the company and hopefully they can assist you.  Any questions with our leggings, you can reach us here.

2.  Yoga Leggings versus Workout Leggings

Black Workout Leggings

Jolie High-Waisted Capri Leggings With Pockets - $40.00

When you shop for leggings, does your internal conversation go, “I like these leggings they are cute and I’ll take them!” Well, that works most of the time especially if you are doing a gym class, a yoga class, or walking the dog.   If you are planning a hardcore workout or outdoor workout, then you need to look into an official workout legging.  Official workout leggings include many of the following features and more:

  • Moisture wicking capabilities - Perfect for hardcore workouts with a lot of sweat but also for ladies who sweat a bit more. These are also great when you’re going to be out in the heat for extended periods of time.

  • Reflective panels - For working out during low light, so you’re safe on the road

  • High waistband - Great for core control

  • UPF protection - Leggings can provide protection from UV rays to avoid sunburn and skin damage so look out for this feature

  • Leggings with Pockets - Leggings with a pocket are a godsend. I’ll be the first to admit, I am no longer the gym rat that I used to be.  So, these are my go-to when I’m running after the kids.  The pockets allow for hands-free of phone, keys and any other small necessities.

    3.  Black Leggings - The New Wardrobe Essential

Everyone is looking for or already has that go to pair- or two or three or more pairs of black leggings.  Trust me some are better than others!   I’m sure some are more comfortable or stylish than the others.  So, when looking for black leggings what should you look for?   The number one thing is fade resistant. Clothing labeled as fade resistant are treated longer than normal or standard fabric.  However, you’ll typically be ok with fabrics blended with acrylic, polyester, or nylon because they are less likely to fade.  There are plenty of leggings made with at least 10% of polyester.  When you wash your black leggings, turn them inside out to protect the outside.  Also, don’t be afraid to choose leggings that punch up the typical black legging with a bit of color – it’s ok to stand out from the all black leggings’ crowd.

    4.  Capri Leggings

Not short enough to be shorts, not long enough to be full length pants. They are a go-to on warm mild summer days, and for spring or fall.  I even wear them occasionally tucked into a boot and no one knows the difference.  They cut mid-calf and anything longer may be considered a 7/8th legging. Enjoy them in the summer and they are so fun and stylish.

    5.  Rear seam – dreaded or welcome?

    Glitterati Printed Women's Workout Leggings - $34.99

For those who want to accentuate their posterior region, there are leggings that come with an enhanced rear seam.  Typically, leggings come with a flat rear seam but I have run across an enhanced rear seam. This caught me completely off-guard!  I determined that those weren’t the leggings for me because let me just say that my derriere doesn’t need any enhancement.  Just because they aren’t for me, doesn’t mean they aren’t for someone else.  With these leggings, there are typically other attributes I like so I just wear a sweater to cover my backside.  These leggings are out there, so if you stumble upon them – I didn’t want you to be caught off guard like I was the first time.

    6.  Fleece-lined Leggings

Hopefully, your next leggings’ purchase will be your best leggings’ purchase – stylish, cute, comfortable and a perfect fit!
